A Girl’s Best Friend

Oh my goodness! Such young hands!

You know I love lyrics.  But I’ve got to say… that business about diamonds being a girl’s best friend… that’s just sheer and utter nonsense.

I have a teeny-tiny diamond in my wedding ring.  The “engagement” portion of the ring had one that seemed a bit bigger, but it turns out, that was just an illusion.  Yep!  When it fell out and I went to my friend the jeweler to see about replacing it, he showed me that the old one had been sitting on a little mirror to make it look larger.  Ha!  Who knew?  (No wonder I couldn’t find the little stone that fell out… I’d been searching the ground for the wrong size of sand!)

That was years ago.  The jeweler convinced me to put something larger in its place.  So I did.  A bright and shiny cubic zirconia.  I always loved it that my wedding rings were a sweet and simple little symbol of love.  I treasure the memory of a couple of teenagers off to the jewelry store selecting rings, and only spending $144.80, because they were saving money to buy a house.  (Yes, I still have the receipt.)  I wanted the value of these rings to always stay sentimental, and not monetary.

I’ve been wearing them for 30 years now.  Well, the engagement ring.  I didn’t get the wedding ring until May of 1983.  I’ve got some mighty good friends.  One best friend in particular.  He’s a gem, and no diamond compares!

A wonderful sentiment. A beautiful girl, expressing love and devotion. How could I not fall in love with her, for so many reasons. I know my fortune and count my blessings every day – Thank You Sandra 🙂

PS – one more reason to love you….the 30 year old receipt – A priceless price.
