  14. Bette Martinez says:

I loved both my grandmother’s names: Lola Frances and Viva (pronounced with a long ” i”) Claire. I remember two great-grandmothers well: Zetta and Ora. They both lived until I was in jr. high. Very special women! One of my granddaughters got her name from a grandmother in the family Bible–Sophia. We also discovered another granddaughter, Hannah, had a great-great-great-great grandmother who was named Isabelle Hannah. What fun family history is.

  15. Eli Parnell says:

Amanda Parnell her husband Henry died when my grandfather was a teenager and my grandfather took care of her until she died at the age of 94. They were devout Quakers and started a church in Indiana before they moved to Kansas where my grandfather met an married Anna S. Brown. They continued caring for her it their home. As a little boy I remember visiting Amanda when she was bedfast and was puzzled with her “thee” and “thou” language.
