Birthday Gifts

It’s my birthday.  I’m at the end of another decade.  Forty nine.  It’s hard to recall all the wonderful gifts I’ve received through the years, but I’ve got a couple that just stick out to me today.

One decade ago, turning thirty nine, we were heading back to Portales to get the ol’ construction machine back in gear.  I needed a new watch, so G gave me one for my birthday, along with a pretty pair of pink leather work gloves.  He had a little note attached.  “It’s time to get to work.”  (Ha!  He was right!)

But three decades ago his gift was a bit more romantic.  Although I’d helped pick them out, my wedding rings were in his possession.  And on my birthday he took me to the park, we climbed the ladder to go down the slide, and at the top he pulled out the ring and officially asked me to marry him.  A girl doesn’t forget a birthday gift like that!

and remember you can’t be older as long as there’s a Big Sandy in the family, so you’ve got it made, I hope we’re still referring to you as Little Sandy when you’re in your 90’s. Hey, there’s a topic for you.

Love the post. I knew you would give me a smile on my birthday. Always interesting to think that we are perfectly 10 years apart…just wish I were 10 years BEHIND you.:) I know you will have a perfectly wonderful birthday because you decide ahead of time that you will have a good day no matter what day it is. Thanks for always inspiring me to be a better person. Thanks be to God for special friends like you. Enjoy your special cake and ice cream and every other special blessing that comes your way. Happy Birthday!

Hee hee.. always makes me smile to be called “Little Sandy”. And yes, perhaps I’d better write about that!

Cheryl, you’re so sweet. I’m pretty good at deciding to WRITE about good things… even when I’m growling about something on the inside. So nice to have that outlet! Your comment inspires me to be a better person. Thanks, and Happy Birthday to you too!

I missed THE day, but a day late I am here to wish you the happiest of birthdays! I’m a year and a half ahead of you, and so far 50 has been just fine. I am so happy our lives have reconnected after all these years, and that we get to share words with each other on a regular basis. I hope your day was beautiful. I’m betting it was.
