I’m starting a new category.  Ranting and raving.  I do plenty of it, and now I shall make a “simple pleasure” out of it!  Ha!  Hope you’ll bear with me.

And so I begin…

Last Saturday night the barn was full of squeals and laughter.  We had little nieces and cousins spending the night.  Two babies and three girly-girls, ages 7, 8 and 9.  Grand time!!  They were so adorable snuggled up under blankets in their pajamas, side by side in one big chair, watching a sweet little show about cute dogs and puppies.

I was getting myself ready for bed when they called for me to come see something.  And it was this trashy ad with a girl in a ridiculous get-up, phone in hand, encouraging callers.  That’s my rant!  How dare a station put junk like that on a show that’s obviously geared toward children??!!

Here’s the great part.  They called me in to see it because they were furious about it.  And all three of those sweetie pies were telling me how inappropriately that girl was dressed.  Yes!  That was their word… inappropriate.  (Good job parents!!!)  I told them that anyone watching this puppy show was obviously interested in things like pet food and pet toys, and it was crazy that they weren’t just showing ads like that.  We all agreed.

I’m weary of inappropriate advertising on family television.  I’m actually sick of it.  Thanks for letting me rant!

And here we have those sweet girls all dressed up in their Sunday-go-to-meeting-clothes the next morning.  How’s that for a happy ending?

what a beautiful group of little it when my 2 little 8 yr olds spend the night…they notice things like that too…both are raised in church too…we need to complain to the networks as well as whoever owns the products…

Such lovely girls. Their parents did a good job raising them. Most importantly, you are a good aunt and cousin to continue to keep a close eye on them!

Hurray for smart kids, and boo-hiss to network execs who allow that situation to occur! Hope you’ll encourage these young ladies to write a letter to that station and COMPLAIN. Community action can’t start too young, and if nobody ever complains, nothing will change. I think hearing it from children would be especially effective. Good rant!

Yes – maybe we should send the picture and “rant” into Animal Planet, or whoever it was, with the guarantee to never watch their channel again.

  7. Sandy says:

Betty, thanks for the suggestion. Kim, you and I were thinking alike last night. I’m going to send this to Animal Planet.

    Keep on “ranting”!
