January Reflections

I reflect on the past.  I look back through my calendars to see where I’ve been and where I’ve come.

One year ago I was making my way toward Antarctica.  The cares of the world couldn’t find me, and I was seeing new things, searching for the sweet treasures of this earth… new faces, different dialects, fascinating scenery.

Five years ago I was living through a nightmare.  The burdens of the world were pounding at my door and, along with my family, I was searching for hope and peace.

Songs come flooding into my heart.  Words of triumph and happiness.  “Climb every mountain, ford every stream.”  Lyrics of encouragement.  “When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high.”  The grand words that always carry me through.  “Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, ‘It is well, it is well with my soul’”.

January is always such a reflective time for me.  Perhaps all months carry the same weight.  It just seems that this month holds a great amount of reflection, ambition, transition.  I will continue to dream of new landscapes.  I will continue to treasure past memories.  I will face the future with a grand variety of music in my heart.
