Our street is a treat for the eye

In the evenings the people drive by

Thank you, thank you!  We say

For the cheery display

Of Christmas lights in the night sky

To everyone everywhere – but especially to those of you in Portales – who take the time and the love and the care to string lights and put up elaborate yard displays for this beautiful season… thank you so very much!  We didn’t put up lights this year, but next year (hold me accountable) I’m going to have a special new decoration outside.

I love the sleigh and the reindeer up on the rooftop, the windmill strung with lights and that wonderful, jolly, bigger-than-life Santa on Kilgore.   What a treat that I get to drive this road so often.  That huge green star that shines on Abilene every year… always wonderful when it lights the sky.  Our beautiful nativity scene on the courthouse lawn.   The pie-plate tree and the old truck with presents over in Yucca Heights.  Luminarias dotting lawns and sidewalks, and our little city skyline outlined in white lights.  Thank you friends and neighbors for making everything so festive.

I love the fact that we still have a nativity scene on our courthouse lawn…………… The lights are beautiful, too.

Kelsey and I have been driving around for a few weeks now looking at the lights. I’m always amazed by everything we see. I even love the simple decorations. I’m like you though and I’m very thankful to everyone who has done something in their yard or around town for us to enjoy. Thank you for what you wrote to get the word out, that we are thankful!

We drove around some of the neighborhoods in our commuity tonight to view the lights. So many of them were spectacular!!! I remember the great Santa with his sleigh and reindeer we had on our own rooftop as children, complete with presents and a red nose for Rudolph!! They were beautiful…. 🙂

At first I said “no”…..the wind will blow my lights off or flip them up onto the roof….I’ll just not put them up. But I could not resist and this morning two nice fellas put them up! They also changed a light bulb on my front porch! Yes, Christmas Lights are a wonderful thing!
