Midnight Storm

I love a good thunderstorm!  As you know, I love to watch it, to hear it, to smell that rain.  Those who know me well know that I also love to watch the radar and see just how big the storm is, where it’s come from, where it’s headed.  And so, last night at midnight when the lightning began to crack, I just had to get out of bed to come check the radar on my computer.

I shall be giving a little “moral to the story” at the end of this.  Or perhaps I shall be giving two.

My computer wouldn’t pull up the radar.  I reached for the “smart” phone. In my attempts to clear the blinking-light-message and load the weather app, somehow, some-crazy-how, I hear the ringing tone of a dialed call.  What in the Sam Hill??   I’m trying to back out of the weather and get to the dial pad so I can hang up, all in a panic.  I get the thing shut down and check the call log to find that I have made a fourteen second call to a number that had called my phone hours earlier in the day.  A business call from a customer of ours about tax exemption.  I can only hope it was a call from an office number.  But no, I checked the phone book this morning.  He had called from his home… the same home I called at midnight last night in the middle of an exciting thunderstorm.

I sent the begging-for-forgiveness e-mail first thing this morning.  And now I’m confessing to the world wide web.  And here are the morals to the story…

Moral Number One:  Don’t get so angry at the random midnight “prank caller” who rouses you from deep sleep and scares you out of your mind that there’s some kind of family emergency going on.  They might just be the village idiot who can’t control their own smart phone.

Moral Number Two:  When a good rain storm comes your way, just stay put and enjoy the show.  Who really needs to look at a radar in the middle of the night?

It was a grand storm, and I join with thousands this morning from eastern New Mexico and west Texas in thanking God for such a treat!

Ha ha this made me literally laugh out loud this morning! It’s fun to read your words, but those of us that KNOW you can just see you and hear you when you say things like “what in the Sam Hill”??? haha Thanks for a great start to my day by “confessing”!!!

Well, Sandy, I am a “radar watcher”, too. Not sure I can stay put, though. I was up turning on the TV to see how far reaching the storm was……..
But, when that thunder started I was thinking ‘what in the Sam Hill’. LOL

You’re so funny! Let’s hope his phone was in the other room on vibrate. And for being smart phones, they can sure make us look silly, huh?

  8. Sandy says:

Well.. we could hope. But no! He scrambled to answer the phone just as I was hanging up at midnight. It was most certainly a smart phone faux pas! Brother!!

Sandy, what in the Sam Hill are you doing using electronic devices while a thunderstorm is in the area? I was afraid you were going to say that lightning struck your computer or ‘smart’ phone (which isn’t all that smart if it accidentally calls people) and you barely escaped injury. Anyway, your confession was a fun addition to my day.
