My Cup Runneth Over

It was my great fortune to grow up in a home filled with music.  Good music.  A hi fi system always playing vinyl soundtracks to great movies, beautiful voices like Andy Williams and Elvis filling the air.  And we sang along.  At the top of our lungs, we sang along.

I was four years old when Ed Ames recorded “My Cup Runneth Over”.   I learned the lyrics as a child, and have always loved these beautiful words.

Sometimes in the morning when shadows are deep
I lie here beside you just watching you sleep
And sometimes I whisper what I’m thinking of
My cup runneth over with love

Sometimes in the evening when you do not see
I study the small things you do constantly
I memorize moments that I’m fondest of
My cup runneth over with love

In only a moment we both will be old
We won’t even notice the world turning cold
And so, in this moment with sunlight above
My cup runneth over with love

About a year ago it hit me that I was living out these lines.  And it made me treasure them all the more.  I don’t think we’re old, but I realize how quickly the moments rush by.  We were newly-weds one year, and before we could even blink a few times, thirty years slipped by and we’re literally days away from being fifty years old.  Lines are permanent on our faces, and there’s a little gray in our hair.

Happy 30th Anniversary, my Gary.  My cup runneth over with love, and I’m thrilled to be living in this sunlight with you.

Here’s what I say… click over to get that music playing, then come back over here and enjoy these photos.  We had an absolutely fantastic time with our friend Donita Privett from Times Remembered Photography Studio.  She spent an afternoon at our home taking photos while we dressed up and danced and laughed  to celebrate our anniversary.  I just have to share a little bit of our happy day with you.

To all my readers, and especially our friends and family… thank you for being a part of our lives.  Truly, we’ve been married since we were kids, and we’ve been so incredibly blessed to have been surrounded by such wonderful people.

And now… back to waltzing with the love of my life…

What a perfect post. I had to stop and sing the lyrics.
