New Passports

It is with great joy that I begin the process of my passport renewal.  I have suffered for ten long years with my current little blue booklet, and I say good riddance!  And more joy is mine.  Apparently, you can now just take your own photo if you are renewing, and if you’re clever enough to get your forehead and your chin squared away in the 2×2 space.

Here’s my problem.  Ten years ago we went to get our photos taken for the ol’ passport renewal, and it was $10 a shot.  My photo was horrendous.  Horrendous, I tell you!  My charming, complimenting husband, who has a notion that I’m lovely even on my worst days, took one look at it and told me to take another one.  I told him I wasn’t that vain.  The picture looked just like me, and we were moving on.  He said he was paying the $10 and to take another one.  I refused.  Dumb stubbornness, and some stupid sense of pride in being not-proud… that’s what that was.

And so I have traveled the globe with a photo that looks just like me… and it’s perfect, because it’s exactly how I look when I get off of a 14 hour flight, desperate for sleep, all hope of make-up gone, hair at its absolute worst.  If “deer-in-the-headlights” needed a poster, I’ve got it!

I’d share it with you, but it might be some breech in security to put my old passport photo on the internet.  Maybe some of my family or friends will chime in here and vouch for me.  It has made great laughing material at dinner parties, and it’s surely given several customs agents some comedy relief in their mundane duties.

Trust me! And just the other day, on one of those rare coffee breaks with my friend Janet, I showed her the old one, and she literally busted out laughing!! Everyone does. It can’t be helped!

I get a new one this year also…or as Skyler says, “that’s Nana when she had hair” and it’s a bad sight…like you, I can’t wait!

This is literally some material that is giving me some much needed belly laughs today!! I surely wish I could see, but your descriptions (Sandy and Sharon) are good enough. Just the other day Rudy said the only thing worse than not having a passport is having a passport and not having any place to use it. Must decide on some place to go and start planning. It has now been almost 2 years since we’ve been out of the country and we aren’t getting any younger! I think Rudy really wants to see Italy next but I would be happy going just about anywhere.:) Would certainly help if money were no object…HAHA.

    So true!

I was just having fun searching for some fabulous concert to attend. Decided to check on Michael Buble. Well… rats.. only appearing in England & Ireland on the tour schedule. Guess I’ll have to pass!
