Nightfall on the Nightshades

I have loved you with all of my heart

But sadly, it seems we must part

You brought joy to my plate

Every day when I ate

You were always in my shopping cart

Rellenos and salsa and more

Baked potatoes and hash browns galore

And the ever so fine

Ripened right on the vine

Tomatoes… you made my heart soar

Well, it seems I must tell you goodbye

But I’m not even going to cry

You made my thumbs ache

So it’s worth the heartbreak

But I’ll miss you, I really can’t lie

Wow!  I never would have dreamed that these foods packed with vitamin C, these foods that I consumed in massive amounts, could actually contribute to my demise.  But after reading, and reading, and reading… it appeared that the nightshade family of plants could be causing the arthritis in my thumbs, and maybe the pain in G’s back.  So we took the challenge, removed them from our diet, and amazingly, the aches have disappeared!

If you’re interested, do an internet search of “nightshades arthritis”.  And if you have any experience with a nightshade-free-diet, I’d love to hear about it!
