On the Map

I’m a map reader.  Love maps, always have.  Surprise, surprise… I don’t like GPS gadgets.  Oh, they’re great for some things, but give me a good old-fashioned paper map any day.  When we’re traveling down the road, meandering about the country, we stick with our ritual.  G drives, and I have a huge atlas in my lap – finding little roads we can take to special out of the way places.

Portales is kind of an out of the way place.  I write about it so often.  Many of you have close ties to our little town.  If you don’t live here, you did once upon a time… or you have family here.  I thought the rest of you might like to know where it sits on the map.

It’s just across the Texas border, about a two hour drive from both Lubbock and Amarillo.  We refer to our area as “The High Plains of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas”.  If you look at the square shape of New Mexico, look at the right hand edge, smack in the middle.  That’s Portales.

Y’all come see us!

Speaking of maps… I love looking at my “analytics”. So far in 2012 I haven’t had any readers from Wyoming, Montana or South Dakota. Just a blank spot up there! And no one has checked in from Rhode Island. Now I’m on a quest! Hee hee!

Would it count if I accessed your page from my (GPS-enabled) phone while driving through Rhode Island?!? I’d be happy to do so next time I’m up that way. ;-). Sorry I can’t help with the other three any time soon.

Ha ha! Yes Margret! Use that gadget to get us on the map in Rhode Island!

And what a great idea. I just need to take a road trip up to the Big Sky Country!
