Our Chicken

I have this chicken.

I will always remember the day she brought it.  I saw her pull into the driveway.  I was expecting her, but couldn’t imagine what she was taking out of her truck.  Pretty soon she was walking toward the barn carrying this chicken in its little nest.  If you knew Ruby, you knew she loved her roosters and hens… so from a distance I couldn’t tell if this was a real chicken or not!  The most natural thing in the world would be her carrying a chicken.

We had finally gotten our doorbell to work.  Push the button and the hens start clucking and a rooster will crow.  So for Christmas, Ruby brought this chicken to sit there with her eggs by the front door.  She’d owned it for years and wanted to pass it on to us.  I cried with glee that morning.  I cry with sorrow today.  We will miss you Ruby.

    Dear Sandy~
I share your sorrow at the passing of your dear friend, Ruby. I am so thankful you had her in your life, and so very thankful she had you. It is my prayer that your happy memories will help you overcome the present sorrow, but for now, accept God’s gift of healing through tears. He knows just what we need.
My love and prayers are with you and others who loved Ruby ~

Sandy, I didn’t know her, but we have had her on our prayer list at church. May God bless and comfort her family during this time.
