Seek Peace

That front porch of mine… I just love it!    Yesterday was such a warm sunshiny first day of winter.  When I drove in to my garage from running some happy errands, I remembered I wanted to put some fresh birdseed in my old wheelbarrow.  As I came up onto my porch, seed in hand, the Christmas music was playing over the porch speakers.  Celine Dion singing “Another year has gone by, and I’m still the one by your side after everything that’s gone by…”   Knowing me like you do, you’re not surprised that this put a lump in my throat.  I’m so blessed!

It’s just days before Christmas, and I’m loving those simple pleasures.  My ornaments are made.  The ones I mailed have started arriving at their destinations… happy little Facebook “thank yous” came my way yesterday.  New flannel sheets are on the guest bed, all ready for my sweet family tomorrow night.  I dusted the black rocking chairs on the front porch, then treated myself to rocking in one of them while Il Divo sang “Silent Night”… the beautiful New Mexico sunshine streaming down.  The refrigerator is full of food for the special meals we have planned over the next few days.  Old fashioned meat sandwiches, quail and biscuits (thanks to Gary and my dad), sweet potatoes, bread pudding, brisket and baked potatoes…  We’re going to feast with family all the way through the 27th, and it’s going to be grand.

The speakers on our front porch haven’t worked properly since we moved into the barn.  This month we got that fixed… and the Christmas music has been playing non-stop.   Since Gary and I usually don’t exchange gifts, we’re calling that our present this year.  So, what a gift for me to hear Celine singing a Christmas love song on my front porch… the one that Gary designed and built… where we love to sit and talk and drink good coffee.

I hope you’re finding time to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of the season.  May you seek peace and find it!
