Sleep Tight

Oh what a night!  Let me say right off the bat… it was free… so I’m not complaining.  Just “reporting”.  Glad to have those reward points, I think!

The other good thing, besides free, is that it was day one of the Tour de France, and in a surprising twist, this place had Versus on the TV… the place to watch this grand race.

We all needed a good night’s rest.  Getting up at 4:00 to head to the hospital for my mother-in-law’s surgery.  So, I give you the reason for this posting right up front:  When you get a really good night of sleep, no interruptions, sweet dreams… remember to be thankful!

In our room, either the microwave or the clock decided to start beeping like an alarm around midnight.  It would only beep twice, then go back to dormant for half an hour.  This was tricky… no way to really discover what it was, but definitely enough to make you think your cell phone alarm clock was going off.  After two attempts to adjust this problem, both gadgets were eventually unplugged.

A call from the front desk at 10:45… just making sure it was room 136.  I think they were hoping no one would answer and they could put more guests in the room.  I’m guessing this, because somewhere around 1:00 keys were given to arriving guests who then used said keys to open the door to my mother-and-father-in-law’s room!    (If you refer to things as “said things”, it sounds much more like a report, don’t you think?)

Car dealership next door.  Somewhere in the night a car alarm went off.  Not sure how long that lasted.

Ambulance on the street.  Although we didn’t hear a siren, the red, white and blue lights found their way through the drapes and put on a 4th of July fireworks display on our walls.

The bed was comfy, the pillows were ample… but the real alarm clock went off mighty early, and I think it was probably one good solid hour after I’d drifted off into wonderful deep sleep.  Whatever it means to sleep “tight”… we all know it’s a luxury when it happens.  A simple pleasure indeed!

Post Script:  My mother-in-law is recuperating nicely from her second major back surgery in the past two months, and rehab begins tomorrow.  To all of you who have been praying for her… our family thanks you so very much!

Sounds like my recent evening with the Sigma Chis in Dallas which resulted in three of them being led off by the police department, two free nights and $100 gift. There were 600 of them staying in our hotel and two elevators were destroyed along with other things. The manager on duty said it was BY FAR not the worst night. He told us about a lot of evening horror stories, homeless indwellers, etc and a group of cartoonists or character impersonators in costume that had half the people staying there, half bathing in the pool, wore the same outfits for 3 days, walking around in 100 degree heat during the day, hotel at night, bathing in pool…not my line of work.

There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.

Hotel horror stories always remind me of why I love sleeping in a tent so much. (But wait… sometimes the occasional mule scares you to bits!!)
