Sour Cream Ice Cream

I have to share this “recipe”.  There’s been too much curiosity surrounding it to keep it to myself.  Those who know me best know that I’m not very serious about recipes.  When I’m in the kitchen (and I admit – it’s not my favorite place), I’m just adding some of this and a bit of that until it tastes good to me.

Since my mom always makes this ice cream, I asked if she had the recipe written down somewhere.  No, she doesn’t.  Like me, she just puts ingredients in expecting it to turn out.

So, here’s a little recipe to use as a guide.  I went ahead and measured while I was stirring it up so I could actually say more than “Some sour cream.  Some sugar.  Some vanilla.”  Ha!  It’s a small recipe because I was making it in my Cuisinart freezer for a small crowd.  And I would have put more heavy cream… but alas… that’s all I had left in my carton today.  All is well.  It’s frozen, I’ve tasted it, I’m very happy.

Sour Cream Ice Cream

1 Cup Sour Cream

1/2 Cup Heavy Cream

2 Cups Milk

1 Cup Sugar

1 tsp Vanilla

I know you’ll love it.  It’s rich and delicious!  Let me know if you make a batch.

What size of freezer do you have? Is it a gallon? I made orange sherbet and it was quite good.

The Cuisinart Freezer I have is only a half-gallon. Perfect for a quick batch for a small crowd. I would double or triple this recipe for my other “old-fashioned” freezer that calls for ice and rock salt! (Although you plug it in as well!)
