Thankful

I’m thankful for this beautiful planet.  I can’t fathom how it all works that I am a person with a soul… that I was born when I was born, into a loving family, during this magnificent age of communication and travel.  I love my life, and am blessed beyond measure.

I’m thankful to have experienced such a variety of the spice of life.  I’m talking about true spice here!  To have sampled food from all over this globe, lovingly prepared by people from different cultures with different customs… I find that incredible!  So many people down through the ages have eaten the same menu, day in and day out.  I am spoiled, and I know it.

I’m thankful for all the obvious things that you know I’m thankful for.  The list of dear family and friends is long… so very nice and long.  I could start naming you one by one.  I would type for hours and hours and hours.  It’s always my hope that you can tell how much I love you all, and how thankful I am to be a part of your world.

I’m thankful for this husband of mine.  I try my best not to write too much about him… just seems like I shouldn’t go on and on.  But I could, and perhaps someday I’ll just write a lengthy missive about how amazingly wonderful he is – for those of you who don’t know it already.  We are two peas in a pod, two drifters off to the see the world, partners in business, and dreamers of the same dreams.  I can’t imagine a world without him.

I’m thankful for all God has given us down here on this magnificent earth.  How fortunate am I, going through my days with His Word, filled with His love and promises.

I treasure these lines in a beloved hymn, taken from a Jewish poem over a thousand years old:

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

May it take this much ink and parchment to name our blessings as well!
