Traveler

You know I don’t like clutter, and you can imagine that coming home from a lengthy vacation has created some clutter in my life.  I’m diligently trying to get all the paperwork taken care of on the business end of things.  I’m weary of too many clothes in my closet, so I’m going through that.  I’m trying to organize all our wonderful photos and maps, along with my daily journal from the trip.

I have in front of me a fantastic stack of note cards, and I simply must share them with you before they go into the scrapbook.  Every night on our bed, along with the chocolates and the towel animal, we were given a pretty note card with a quote about traveling.  I’ve selected my favorites… and if you’re a traveler, you’ll love them to.

“There is no moment of delight in any pilgrimage like the beginning of it.”   – Charles Dudley Warner

“A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” – Lao Tzu

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.” – James Michener

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by.”  – Robert Frost

“A traveler without observation is a bird without wings.” – Moslih Eddin Saadi

“Tourists don’t know where they’ve been, travelers don’t know where they’re going.” – Paul Theroux

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” – Martin Buber

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go.  I travel for travel’s sake.  The great affair is to move.”  – Robert Louis Stevenson

“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers.  The mind can never break off from the journey.” – Pat Conroy

“Oh how I wish you happy travels!!  Whether they’re on the road, on the seas, or in your dreams… Bon Voyage!” – Sandy Fields

Beautiful observations…I’m trying to decide which is my favorite. At this moment I think the Michener quote says it best. We have all known travelers who resent and reject what they see. Why waste their money?? Bettye L.

Yes! I love that one too.

Dear readers… tell us your favorite!

This one didn’t make the blog.. but it cracks me up!
“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain

I like the Michener one as well. But the one about journeys having secret destinations is a great reminder to go with the flow. I think if one can’t do that it sort of ruins the whole trip. Thanks for sharing these.

I love the comment by Mak Twain! It may be my favorite.. but I also love the last one by Pat Conroy, about the journey never ending.

  6. Pam says:

Those are great! My favorite is Robert Frost.

I like the Robert Frost one too. I have Thomas Kinkade paintings on my computer background and they have sayings and one says that.
