I consider this great gain for Portales.  I consider it sad loss for me.  I’m losing the view I love so very much.  When we purchased this land, it was one of the things I always mentioned… that I was going to have this view of those windmills.  I love telling people how to get to the barn… “you know where the windmills are…”

And now the windmills are being moved.  They’re going to be grand sitting out on the fairgrounds.  They’re going to be on the main highway, so many more people are going to get to enjoy them now.  I’ll still get to see them all the time.  But you can’t blame a girl for being a little bit sad.

Thank you Bill and Alta Dalley!  Your collection is wonderful, and Gary and I have loved having it so close.  Roosevelt County treasures it, and we all thank you for your gift!

Are the Dalleys relocating, or just “decluttering”? I remember posing for Yearbook group photos on those windmills. What fun! It is nice to see that piece of local history will not disappear.

The Dalleys are not moving. They’re just moving the windmills. They’ve donated the collection to the town. It’s a grand collection! People have come from all over the world to see it.
